Sanctuary Jedburgh Abbey
Jedburgh Abbey was founded as a priory in
1138. After various attacks by  the English,
the building was destroyed between 1545 and
1546.

The reason Jedburgh is so well preserved is
that after the Reformation of 1560 closed
 the abbey down, the nave remained in use
as the parish church until 1875.
This is a true black and white photograph,

Melrose Abbey
Melrose Abbey
The earliest foundation of Melrose, dates 
back to the 7th century. For the Monk
Bede mentions that St. Cuthburt trained
here. The present abbey was established
by David the 1st, in 1136. Legend has
it that Robert the Bruce's embalmed
