A monastery was founded here in the 6th Century by St Colmcille, the only remains of the monastery today are two High Crosses and part of a round tower, This highly decorated cross stands at 3.83 metres and both the east and west side feature animals. The east face bears Adam and Eve, David and Goliath, Daniel in the Lions' Den and a Lion . The South side features the only icon of the Virgin and Child on an Irish High Cross.
