Warkworth Castle, Northumberland England Near Amble. Warkworth Castle sits atop a green hill overlooking the River Coquet. It was the Percy family home. Featured in Shakespeare's Henry V. The first castle was built in the 12th century and every century after that has left it's mark. believed to be the ghost of Margaret Neville, wife of the first Earl of Northumberland. The wine cellars below were also used as an overflow prison, leaving some visitors to feel an uncanny presence. 5x7

 When I shoot black and white film, I put a colored filter over the lens to help with contrast and lighting. My asst. put the orange b/w filter on my color camera body. After shooting 2 frames I realized what he did and was upset. Then, I got the negative back and said "I like this". It is, a one of Kind, Mistake This print

 Although built by the De La Mare family, the castle and the half manor passed onto the Prater family, who were catholics and royalist. This last fact was to bring about the demise of this prestigious building, as in 1645 the parliamentarians considered it's presence of a sufficient threat that the castle was laid siege to and finally slighted after capture. Although the Prater family recovered the property from Charles II some years later, it was not lived in again nor repaired. Most of the castles north west collapsed in 1910 and the remains of this once fine building were used as kennels for dogs, just prior to 1926. Soon after this date the remains were placed in the hands of the Ministry of Works who undertook extensive work to remove the years of vegetation growth and unblock the silted moat. 8x10
